NFL Championship Sunday
Today marks the 24th anniversary of Robert Kraft purchasing the Patriots. Today will mark the 43rd playoff game for the franchise since Kraft took ownership. There is not an owner in any sport that can claim that sort of success that Bob Kraft has had (and continues to have) with the New England Patriots.
The Patriots are favored over Jacksonville by 7.5 but if you look at the over under Vegas has the Pats line at 27.5 points and the Jags at 17.5 points. That's a spread of 10 points - not 7.5. Something doesn't add up.
Today I'm taking New England (got it at -7 and bought a half point for -6.5) and taking a chance on the Vikings (-3). Good luck everyone!

NFL Sunday - Week Two
What I've learned over the years of doing this blog is if I post my picks there's a much greater chance that I'll lose. If I don't post them - there's a much greater chance that I win. Kind of like Schrodinger's Cat (Lynch's Bets?). I keep asking myself why bother?
I went 0-2 last week but both games easily could have gone the other way. Cie la vie.
Today I like the Pats -6.5 (I bought the extra 1/2 point) and the Vikings +7. Bradford being a game time decision makes a dent in my confidence in my Minnesota pick but I'm taking them anyway (just for less money).
It should be noted that I was weary about taking Pittsburgh last week because everyone seemed to be picking them. The same seems true for the Pats and Vikings today and it does honestly concern me. I keep thinking of how everyone was picking BC to cover against Notre Dame yesterday and Wyoming to cover against Oregon. Both BC and Wyoming got smoked.
They say if 80% of the bets are on one side then the smart money will be among the 20%. Luckily only 60% seem to be taking New England today.

Flotsam and Jetsam
Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
Going to do one of those payday loans today and spend all the money on Powerball tickets! What? No I don't need a financial adviser! Why do you ask?... Heh heh... If you watch the movie To Kill a Mockingbird backwards - it is the story of a black man brought back from the dead to break up some furniture (not sure it this was original to me)... Stephen Tobolowski tells the best stories... Speaking of movies - still amazed that role in Airplane! that went to Leslie Nielsen was originally offered to Christopher Lee... This is a pretty handy tool... Salad bars really should be re-named "vegetable buffets"... The ultimate US road trip... Has anyone made the "I'm skinny legs Peyton Manning and I have cable" and "I'm jacked up on HGH Peyton Manning and I have DirecTV" joke yet?... Interesting... Now that Brian Urlacher has all that hair - if he really grows it out would the Vikings offer him the job of Ragnar?... Best explanation of high school football I've read... I don't care how good the show Making a Murderer might be - I'm not going to invest 10-hours of my time in something that will just make me angry... Navy ship to be named after Medal of Honor winner Hershel "Woody" Williams...

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) since it is funded by Federal tax dollars really should be called the American Center for Disease Control. Yes I am advocating for a name change to ACDC... I agree that Keith Foulke does not get the credit he deserves for the Red Sox 2004 post season success... My Wu-Tang Clan name is Chris... ACDC - Dirty Diseases Done Dirt Cheap... The US is $40 trillion richer than China. $40 trillion!!... If I ever met Gwyneth Paltrow - I would tell her how much I loved her on Friends just to try and tick her off... I've said this before but I'd love to see the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy be renamed as the Red Auerbach NBA Championship Trophy... Have to agree that the Vikings look like the real winners in the latest Percy Harvin trade... If you are interested I like Cal getting 7 points at home today vs UCLA... ACDC - For those About to Fight Ebola (We Salute You)...

Adrian Peterson and Slavery
When I heard Adian Peterson talk about slavery all I could think of was the above commercial. Do you think he paid his Viking assistant? Look at the way he treats the poor guy - the disdain. Adrian Peterson was basically a slave owner in that commercial.

Randy Moss
Here's my take on the Randy Moss situation.
It seems to me that Randy Moss is very much like the spoiled - talented kid who switches from one high school to another in his senior year. The kid was just as talented and spoiled at the first school as at the second but the first school had all his friends from the past three years and it had adults who he respected enough not to completely go off his meds.
The kid had to switch schools and at first he was happy about it. But being insecure he had to build himself up by knocking other people (and catering services) down at this new school. His friends weren't there anymore to tell him to shut up. He starts pouting and saying publicly how much better his other school was and how the adults at the other school were so much better than the adults at his new school. The adults at his new school are just stupid (anyone with kids has heard things called "stupid" by unhappy children). Then the adults at the new school decide to suspend the kid.
Now the kid can't go back to his old school and his new school just kicked him out. Other schools don't have to take him in but some school eventually will because as petulant as the kid is - he is still very talented.
The adults at his first school are silently relieved to have him out of their hair and shake their heads at any school willing to put up with his crap.

If the Vikings lose to the Lions on Sunday - what are the odds of Brett Favre retiring on Monday? 100-1 maybe?... Death by caffeine: how much will kill you? About 100 cups of coffee or 131 cans of Red Bull apparently... Just saying but if the Red Sox sweep the Yankees for the rest of the season then that only puts them 1.5 games back for the Wild Card. Yeah I'm grasping at straws.... On this day in 1911 - ground is broken in the building of Fenway Park. They don't make 'em like they used to... In honor of Goodfellas celebrating the 20th anniversary of its release - here a quiz on the movie. I got 100%... Michael Douglas turns 66 today while Catherine Zeta-Jones turns 41. I find it strange / interesting that they share the same birthday... Led Zepplin drummer John Bohnam died 30-years ago today. In his memory here's Zep playing Kashmir back in 1979.
