Friday Flotsam and Jetsam
Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.
Yesterday ESPN drew criticism because it both skipped the national anthem and the moment of silence tribute to those killed in the terrorist attack in New Orleans the day before prior to their broadcast of the Sugar Bowl. ESPN didn't want to seem too political or Islamophobic. Since when has the national anthem been deemed "political" and the whole reason the game was delayed was the terrorist attack. ESPN deserves all the criticism they are receiving today.

When Richard Feynman was a senior in high school the state of New York required all seniors to take a "Regents exam" in order to graduate. Wonder how high school seniors today would fare on that same test? I think we all know the answer.

Joe Foss
It was 22 years ago today that American hero Joe Foss passed away. Joe Foss lived one of the fullest lives of almost anyone I can think of. He was a military hero - he was awarded the Medal of Honor. He was a politician - he served as Governor of South Dakota. He was a businessman - he served as the first commissioner of the American Football League (stepping aside just 2 months before the merger with the NFL). He was an activist - serving as President of the National Rifle Association. He was also quite literally The American Sportsman.
Joe Foss was also the leading surviving American fighter ace in World War II shooting down 26 enemy aircraft in total. (Medal of Honor winner Richard Bong was the top American Ace with 40 confirmed kills before Bong's death.)Its a shame to me that a man like Joe Foss could accomplish so much but be known and remembered by so few.

Made a number of predictions for 2025 but a couple I'm confident will come true are that once Donald Trump is inaugurated and becomes Commander in Chief once again he'll order the Navy to strike and destroy the terrorist organization the Houthis. Also predicted that the regular DOGEcast to review what DOGE had just accomplished will regularly get better ratings than any TV newscast.
