Did not comment on the Rate Payer Protection Pledge signed yesterday by the major AI companies and President Trump because it is a "pledge" - a guideline without the force of a law. I'm waiting to see how this shakes out. Have the feeling the Administration is nudging AI companies toward partnering with military bases installing nuclear plants. These things seem to be aligning.

- Plugged the book Education of a Wandering Man into the Book Recommendations site and got back 30 title. Of those I've already read 15, have 3 on my reading list, 2 others on bookshelves and will probably be adding the other titles to my wish list.

China, Russia, Pakistan, and others have protested the US military actions against Iran in Operation Epic Fury but this was what they were expected to do. No real actions other than words of condemnation will be taken. If these nations had any real issue during the US's weeks long build up of military asset literally on Iran's doorstep those concerns would have been conveyed long ago.

Have to research the subject more but seems to me that the bottom line to this controversy over Anthropic seems to be the company's view that some Silicon Valley Karen would be better equipped to handle military targeting than someone who graduated from officer training school and has years of experience. The Karen says she determines the ethics and thus gets to determine the appropriateness of targets.

Reports are coming out that NBC will be replacing Tony Dungy on their Sunday night NFL telecast. So many outlets reporting the same thing at the same time means someone at NBC wanted this info out there. Now the question is who replaces Dungy? If it is Peyton Manning is this a knife in the back move? If it is Bill Belichick would that just be another win over Dungy for Belichick? Inquiring minds want to know.

Last night was President Trump's State of the Union address and I think the more the differences in the party's and their stances on 80/20 issues like transgender surgery on children against parents wishes is brought to the fore that the differences between the two are made clear. What type of party requires everyone to march in lockstep and not think for themselves? The Democrats can't even stand or clap without official party OK. It's creepy.

Iwo Jima
Today is the anniversary of the iconic photo by Joe Rosenthal of the raising of the American flag on Mount Suribashi on Iwo Jima. The fighting on the island actually started four days earlier on February 19th. The story of this battle is something every high school student should have to learn before they are allowed to graduate.

The Supreme Court rules 6-3 against the White House using IEEPA to justify the current tariffs. The White House was prepared just and used different methods, The bottom line is 2026 tariffs remain in place but Supreme Court justices are now on record of saying tariffs are legal - not just under IEEPA.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
Watched The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar last night. Had stayed away from it because just wasn't in the mood for a Wes Anderson film but honestly the thing about the cards made me curious. I'm glad it did because I found it delightful - and it's not a movie - its a short film (only 40 minutes in length). It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Kingsley. Worth a watch.

This was of course before Francona won his first World Series championship in 2004. Now many had been giving "cute" derisive nicknames to Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. Wonder what these people think about their clever nicknames now?

I enjoy reading about the early days about pro sports teams because the one thing all those teams had in common was gaining and keeping fans. That seems to be replaced these days by many owners caring more about franchise evaluations and luxury boxes.

Happy Lent to all that observe. Piece of history but the McDonald's Filet O' Fish was actually started in 1962 by a Cincinnati franchise whose customers where mainly Catholics who would not eat hamburgers on a Friday during Lent. That was really hurting business. Corporate saw the success the Filet O' Fish was having and it was added to the menu. The rest is history.
