Player Comparison

I'm amazed at how close Derek Lowe's numbers resemble Mike Mussina's.

Take this year - Mussina is 9-8 with a 5.43 ERA while Lowe is 12-10 with a 5.22 ERA. Lowe has also managed to start 6 more games and pitch 35 more innings than Mussina this year (because Moose has been hurt) and yet Lowe has surrendered 3 fewer HR.

Over the past three years take a look at the numbers:

Mussina: 45-25 / 553 IP / 4.10 ERA

Lowe: 50-25 / 574 IP / 3.95 ERA

They have both given up exactly 252 earned runs over the past 3-years. I never realized how closely their performances have matched up.
