American Idol

I'm not a fan of the show (but my oldest girls are huge fans) and I won't write about how I can't understand how people can watch this stuff (as an aside I really dislike when people who have never seen a movie, a TV show or read a particular book can take it upon themselves to write about how bad something they haven't seen is. Those columns and editorials are born out of laziness and ignorance - so I always try to avoid them). My girls can't see how I can be so fanatical about watching the Red Sox and I don't see the attraction for American Idol - no problem - different strokes and all that.

The reason I am bringing up American Idol at all is because of this article - link.

People are using autodialers to stuff the ballot box (so to speak). I'm not sure if you are aware of it but some casinos take action on American Idol - so we may be witnessing the TV equivalent of the 1919 Black Sox. The article just speaks about the cheap commercial autodialers. All it would take is one or two call-center quality autodialers to really alter the outcome.

Didn't the big favorite get voted off a week or two ago? Wasn't everyone really surprised by that result?
