Miscellaneous Thoughts

Some morning thoughts while I have my first cup of coffee...

I like the Angels as a franchise but I don't think they have the pitching to win the West. The A's are just 3 games back and they have 5 solid starters (plus Joe Blanton in the minors). I would look for Billy Beane to make his annual acquisition of a big bat (last year it was Jose Guillen) to help lock up the AL West for another year... Annie Duke and her brother Howard Lederer are both out at the WSOP... People are always quick to count out the Braves but they are just 3.5 games out of first place and they haven't come close to hitting on all cylinders yet... Heh heh - best WSOP quote I've seen so far (found at Pokervoice.com) from Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot, "Every player on my table has shepherd's pie in their pants, the fish is off and running"... Don't count the A's out of the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes - remember the last time the Royals had a five-tool centerfielder they couldn't afford it was Johnny Damon and they traded him to the A's (they got Angel Berroa in return)... Tayshaun Prince's block of Reggie Miller's shot was great but by this time next year it will be forgotten (it didn't happen in a Game 7 or the Finals)... I wonder if the folks at ESPN realize that the term "Diamond Cutter" is also used to describe rock solid hard-ons (i.e "I woke up this morning with a diamond cutter")?... Very strange - Byung-Hyun Kim is going back to South Korea for medical advice on his injured hip/back. This whole thing with Kim is strange and getting stranger... Actually what you wake up with in the morning is more correctly called a "bemho" (basic early morning hard-on)... This is kinda scary - disease ridden ties?... Heh heh (from Todayinbaseballhistory.com) - 1922 - Babe Ruth is suspended one day and fined $200 for throwing dirt on an ump after being called out on a play at second base, then going into the stands after a heckler. He is also stripped of his title as team captain
