Miscellaneous Thoughts
Some thoughts and observations while I have my first cup of coffee...
Toronto is quietly turning things around and I'm willing to bet that the Blue Jays will be back to about .500 by the end of the month... People like to refer to the Mets as the "Mess" but right now they have a better record than San Francisco and I predict that the Mets will finish the season with a better record than the Giants (not that either team will be over .500 for the year)... Derek Lowe isn't exactly helping his free agent stock. Right now he has a 5.01 ERA. I wonder if he'll be able to find his 8.91 runs per 9 in run support on another team?... I've heard that Chris Berman is a nice guy and all but come on. Enough is enough. As Don Imus would say - somewhere their is a dog track calling his name. Time to hang it up Chris (or at least just stick to NFL Primetime)... Bob Ryan has a column on Derek Lowe and he buries the question of whether Lowe's 2002 was a fluke and if this is the real Derek Lowe? I think the question also has to be asked if Lowe can handle the pressure of having to perform during a free agency year... Just sayin' - combined Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte are 9 and 1 with a combined 2.52 ERA. Combined their replacements with the Yankees - Kevin Brown and Javier Vazquez are 7 and 3 with a combined 3.29 ERA... RIP Alan King - 1927-2004...
