Miscellaneous Thoughts

If the season ended today - the Red Sox and the Cubs would be the two Wild Card teams... At the end of May last year Kevin Brown had an ERA of 2.02. So far this year he has an ERA of 3.13. Last year at the end of May Roger Clemens had an ERA of 3.71. So far this year he was an ERA of 1.72. I think they both help prove the idea that the difference between the AL and NL is about 1 to 2 runs of ERA... I bet hell is a lot like being stuck in an elevator with Stephen A. Smith and Gilbert Godfried while they have an argument... From today's BostonSportsMedia.com - Yesterday on Dennis & Callahan, Bill Simmons was a guest and noted that as part of his new deal with ESPN.com he will have his own webpage there and do columns 2-3 times a week. This was not really followed up on by D&C... The Greek God of Walks - Kevin Youkilis and the Sony Walkman are the same age. Both made their debut in this world back in 1979... My how times have changed. There is a good chance that the Red Sox will sign David Ortiz, Pokey Reese, and Pedro Martinez while letting fellow free agents to be Derek Lowe, Jason Varitek and Nomar Garciaparra walk away. If the situation was reversed - then you would see pundits across the country talk about how the Red Sox haven't yet broken free of their racist roots... One nice thing to note about having the Calgary Flames in the Stanley Cup finals is the fact that their fans won't boo the US National Anthem (Calgary = Houston with skiing)... The Red Sox have agreed to a two-year extension with David Ortiz (with an option for a third). My guess is that Pokey Reese will be next up for the Sox to sign... Johnny Damon shaved his caveman look for charity today. I will be curious to see if Damon's Disciples still show up at Fenway tonight...
